Lesson Plan: The Illustrated Wynken, Bylnken, and Nod

The children's poem, Wynken, Blynken and Nod, is rich in visual details and offers children many
opportunities to allow their imaginations to soar. Visualization, as a tool of enhanced comprehension,
is easily encouraged by the detailed illustrations in this new rendering of the archetypical,
fantasy voyage. It is important, however, to provide young readers the necessary tools to
understand, evaluate, and appreciate this whimsical tale. Some preliminary discussion is suggested
before reading, as well as some clarification of challenging vocabulary employed in this writing
